Lafarge South Africa is the local subsidiary of the international Lafarge Group, the world leader in building materials, and a leader in its industry for sustainable development. The Group uses its unparalleled technical resources to contribute innovative products and solutions for building better cities, rural towns and villages that will sustain growth and improve the lives of all people.

The Lafarge Richards Bay cement plant and distribution depot is respected locally for engaging in projects that help the surrounding disadvantaged communities. It recently supported the local Rotary Club with a donation of five wheelchairs.

Handing over the wheelchairs to the delighted recipients in a ceremony at the cement plant, Pat Stockwell, Lafarge Plant Manager said, "We admire the work of Rotary that gives many disabled persons in rural areas of Zululand some independence and are proud to have been able to assist. Rotary's tireless efforts have enabled many people to venture out from their homes for the first time and improved their quality of life."

In addition to various social responsibility projects organised by the Richards Bay facility, the Lafarge Education and Community Trusts have a wide-ranging education upliftment ‘Whole Development Programme' at 26 schools in the neighbouring Mzimela community.
