SUSTAINABILITY

Lafarge develops building solutions that are as forward-thinking as they are effective. Sustainability is at the heart of our operation, because we are dedicated to creating a better future. By using innovation to advance the construction industry, we are able to set new standards of  sustainability. We are always improving, and remain committed to creating large-scale change through sustainable communities with a lower carbon footprint.

Fighting Climate change

We set out to be environmentally responsible in every aspect of our business. By continually improving industry procedures and manufacturing processes, we enable a widespread reduction in resource consumption and environmental impact. With the reach and influence Lafarge has in the construction industry, we promote practices that combat climate change in a meaningful and sustainable way.

Health and Safety

With an outstanding health and safety track record, Lafarge defines best practice in the construction industry. Following procedure and monitoring performance has successfully guided us throughout the years. From our professionally trained people, to our carefully formulated products, health and safety are essential pillars of our entire operation.

Sustainable Construction

As the first member of the Green Building Council of South Africa, we aim to lead the transformation of South Africa’s building industry. Our Efficient Building System ensures that every structure that we build is designed, built and operated in an environmentally sustainable way.

Acting Locally

We call on our worldwide experience to generate positive change on a local level. Wherever we operate, uplifting the local community is mandatory. Providing sustainable solutions that solve uniquely South African problems is our way of acting locally.

Environmental Certification

Our local cements are fully supported by the unique technical and scientific resources of Lafarge's Integrated Solutions and Innovation Center (ISIC). This advanced facility carries an eighteen-year track record of continuous ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS). This covers thirty-four test methods, including all the SANS EN tests for common and masonry cements, other relevant SANS, EN and DIN test methods for aggregates and concrete, as well as an in-house method for Dense Medium Separation. QDSA is also able to run a further 200 in-house tests for the aforementioned methods, offering ultimate reassurance and a push towards a lower carbon footprint.
