Mandela Day

Mandela Day

Mandela Day 2018 was the perfect opportunity for Lafarge to honour the selfless nature of Madiba. Heeding the call to perform acts of kindness in our local communities, every one of Lafarge South Africa’s sites gave time, effort and donations towards uplifting their areas.

The Longmeadow Head Office spent the day at Ratang Bana Children for the Future Centre, donating soup, goodie packs, clothes and non-perishable food items. In Lichtenburg, the team spent time with the children at Manana Primary, providing soup and clothes. They also ran an interactive session to teach the young learners how to keep colds at bay during the winter period, and conducted a community clean-up drive as well. The team from Blue Rock Quarry in East London visited Zanokhanyo Day Care Centre for the day. The team cooked for the children, spent time playing with them, and also handed out food donations. Stanger Quarry made their donation to Khuthalani Community Primary School. Peak Quarry donated soup to Masiphumle Elderly Care Centre, as well as brooms and spades for the community of Khayelitsha to keep their neighbourhood clean. Lafarge also partnered with Eskom to create a memorable day for the people of Oranjeville, which included the donation of a panel van that will be converted into a mobile clinic to assist the sick in the community.

Thank you to all the Lafarge South Africa employees who contributed to making Mandela Day 2018 memorable for those in need. Your collective contribution drives the development of our communities, and the betterment of our country.
