A strong focus on innovation is one of the key differentiating features of Lafarge South Africa, the local presence of the international Lafarge Group, a world leader in building materials.  Customers who have sought the technical services of Lafarge South Africa's  Quality Department Southern Africa (QDSA) based at Industria, Johannesburg, have come to appreciate the unique scope of services available from Lafarge and the ability of the QDSA staff to empathise with their needs.

This local technical facility illustrates the essence of Lafarge's new branding with its ambition to contribute to Building better cities. The Group is committed to using its unparalleled technical strength to provide customers with products and solutions for building better cities that are more compact, have more housing, are more durable, more connected, more beautiful and are more desirable places in which all people can live, work and play.

QDSA operates one of the largest and most respected SANAS (South African National Accreditation System) Accredited Civil Engineering testing facilities in South Africa. Complying with ISO/IEC 17025, the facility has a proud nineteen-year track record of continuous accreditation. It has a fine track record for being a one-stop technical solution centre for Lafarge customers and the local construction industry in general.

The scope of QDSA's innovative holistic technical support embraces the full value circle. Customers can commission assistance for any part or the whole process: product mix design, validation, on site implementation, and optimisation.  The technical support covers services such as complete aggregates evaluation; solutions for concrete from recommendations on suitable binders and admixtures to final mix designs; mix design solutions and optimisation for precast concrete and tiles; solutions for mortar and plasters; materials evaluation for bricks, blocks and domestic pavers; grouts and backfill solutions for mines, including product performance comparisons using a climate simulation chamber. The QDSA team also offers on-site trouble shooting and a range of sophisticated specialised testing such as full chemical oxide analysis by XRF.

A unique strength that benefits customers and sets Lafarge South Africa further apart from its competitors, is QDSA's affiliation to the Lafarge Group's Research Centre in Lyon, France, one of the largest building materials research and development centres in the world. QDSA also exchanges information with over 60 material technology laboratories worldwide.

Comments QDSA Manager, Sibusiso (‘Sibu') Hlatshwayo: "Our capability of providing innovative technical solutions for product and project building material issues is directed at adding value to the businesses of our customers."
