FAQ 1 : Safety advisor - Port Elizabeth

Job title - Safety advisor

Main duties and responsibilities

 

  • Conduct annual safety induction training as may be required.
  • To co-ordinate and drive the CARE programme throughout the region
  • To assist operations to prepare for audits : SARMA, ISHE & ABOUT FACE
  • Organise health, safety and environmental training with the Learning and Development Department as may be required
  • Ensure all incidents, medical cases, first aid and lost time injuries are reported immediately to the responsible management as well as to the Health and Safety inspector as legally required and that such incidents are entered into the incident database
  • To ensure that monthly health and safety stats are compiled and submitted on time to the National Safety Manager
  • Attend site health and safety committee meetings and give direction and advice regarding health and safety matters
  • Participate in the correct implementation of the Group H & S standards within the region
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of health and safety management system to ensure that all relevant safety documents and records, are kept and properly managed

 

Environmental Responsibilities

 

  • Update and maintain Environmental Management System and programs
  • Investigate environmental complaints raised by surrounding community and give necessary feedback where required
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation through yearly audits and inspections
  • Ensure ASPASA and SARMA Audits are conducted to ensure that environmental system is well maintained
  • Assist in identifying, assessing and reducing the organisation's environmental risks and financial costs

 

Qualification and Experience

 

 

  • Applicants must possess a Grade 12 (Matric) qualification and a National Safety Diploma
  • Samtrac, extensive knowledge in Incident Investigation, Risk Assessments and health and safety training is essential
  • OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 certificates
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a mining/quarrying and/or manufacturing environment would be advantageous
  • A valid driver's licence and driving experience

 

Technical Skills and Attributes

 

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation (MHSACT, OHSACT and COID)
  • Good understanding of Safety, Health & Hygiene management
  • Ability to carry out objective auditing
  • Computer literate

Job title - Quarry Manager Evander

Main purpose of position

 

To manage all aspects of the Quarry operation to ensure efficient production of quality product whilst adhering to all safety and environmental regulations. 

 

Main duties and responsibilities

 

  • Management of the Health, Safety and Environmental Programmes
  • Management of the operation including the development and management of the entire quarrying process
  • Maintenance of optimum production levels
  • Management of planned maintenance through maintenance controllers
  • Budgeting and reporting on performance monthly
  • Maintenance of product quality
  • Management of all subordinate staff
  • Assume Management responsibilities pertaining to Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act and other relevant legislation
     

 

Qualification and Experience

 

  •  Applicants must possess a Grade 12 (Matric) qualification
  •  A relevant tertiary qualification in an engineering discipline would be advantageous
  • Opencast blasting ticket/qualification is essential
  • A minimum of 5 years management experience in an Aggregates environment with specific exposure to Operations, People and Commercial Management.

Qualification and Experience

 

  • Applicants must be in possession of a Grade 12 (Matric) qualification and preferably a relevant tertiary qualification in the mining or construction field.

  • A minimum of 5 years sales experience in a production environment at supervisory level with a strong commercial focus.

  • Ability to interact and develop customer relations.

  • Ability to work independently within set targets.   

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • Computer skills.

  • Strong leadership and team building skills are required.
