Sponsoring Tukkies concrete cube competition

Lafarge Cement recently sponsored a highly successful Concrete Cube Competition for 136 civil engineering students at the University of Pretoria.

The students were given a presentation on Lafarge, followed by an explanation of the performance characteristics and benefits of each of the local company's cements. For the cube competition, each student had to select one of three competition categories to enter, using their choice of cement from Lafarge South Africa's product range:

  • Best lightweight concrete
  • Strongest cube
  • Cube closest to a target strength of 30MPa

The students had tremendous fun putting concrete theory into practice and the standard of entries was very high.

Lafarge donated cash prizes for the best two students in each category, gave each student a T-shirt and made sure the competitors didn't go hungry. Students will also be receiving Lafarge handy Builders' Calculators.
