Embracing Transformation

  • Finalising a ground-breaking R1,2billion Black Economic Empowerment transaction early in 2007
  • Establishing Employee Share Ownership schemes
  • Reopening the Inanda Quarry in Durban under a partnership deal with the Qadi people. The new Qala Quarry company is effectively 63% black owned.
  • Introducing a Learnership Programme to members of the communities in which we operate

The BBBEE Transaction


The main features of the BEE transaction were the sale of 26% of its mining activities in Lafarge Mining (Pty) Ltd and 10% of its manufacturing businesses held in Lafarge Industries (Pty) Ltd, to its employees and Sinako (Pty) Ltd (“Sinako”), a women-led empowerment consortium.

Peotona:

 

20% of Sinako will be owned by Peotona, a women's investment company owned by Cheryl Carolus, Dolly Mokgatle, Wendy Lucas-Bull and Thandi Orleyn.


Motjoli:
20% of Sinako will be owned by Motjoli, a black-owned company operating in the mining sector.

Our BBBEE Rating


The BEE rating agency Empowerlogic is commissioned to conduct a broad based black economic empowerment audit of the Lafarge South Africa Holdings operating companies:

  • Lafarge Industries South Africa (Pty) Ltd, which incorporates the company’s manufacturing and marketing activities of cement, readymix concrete and gypsum
  • Lafarge Mining South Africa (Pty) Ltd, which embraces the company’s sand, aggregate, limestone and gypsum quarrying interests.
